Analytics

The independent Matomo analytics suite is used on this site. Matomo has a number of options to effectively annonymise the information it collects. On this site it is configured to record the point of entry a site visitor takes, the device and operating system used, the duration of the visit, the pages viewed on the site, and the approximate—not precise—region the site is being visited from. Location is determined by recording the 12 digit IP address the site is accessed from and referencing it with known locations. The last 6 digits of the IP address are not recorded, to deliberately obscure the data.

If you come across my login page, a temporary cookie will be set to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.

Embedded content from other websites

Articles on this site may include embedded content (such as YouTube videos, images or posts from Facebook or Twitter.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the original hosting website.

These websites collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracking your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website. You can guard against this using various web browser addons. Some privacy focused web browsers do this more effectively.

Other information

No personally identifying information is recorded on the site. If a site visitor uses a contact form, the information entered there is recorded on the site and emailed. Submissions are checked through an automated spam detection service.
